WR baseball
benefit is May 14
At The Valley Club
To raise money for its summer
baseball programs for youth ages 13-18, the Wood River Baseball
Association has scheduled its third annual baseball benefit for
Saturday, May 14 at The Valley Club.
The fundraiser includes a
nine-hole golf tournament starting at 2 p.m. May 14, followed by a
cocktail hour, dinner, raffle and live auction. There will be prizes for
tournament participants and a wide array of auction items.
Supervised by Wood River High
School varsity baseball coach Lars Hovey, the summer baseball program
features two 13-year-old prep teams, and two 14-15 year old teams
playing in a sanctioned Babe Ruth league. In all, the teams will play
150 games.
From these teams, one Select
13-year-old prep team and one Select 14-15 year-old team will represent
the area in district and possibly regional and national playoffs.
In addition, there are plans for
just one American Legion "A" team for youngsters ages 15-18. Last year
Wood River fielded "AA" and "A" American Legion teams, which offered
tougher competition at "AA" but spread the limited Legion roster a
little thin.
To supplement player fees, the
benefit is needed to help pay transportation and lodging costs,
tournament and umpire fees, uniform and equipment expenses, and coaches’
salaries.
Cost is $135 per person for the
golf tournament and dinner. Other levels of contribution are $540 for a
team sponsorship, $100 for hole sponsorship, $45 for the dinner/auction
only, or $2,500 for tournament or dinner co-sponsorship.
Donations of auction and raffle
items are welcome, too. Contact Larry Lloyd at 726-2870 or buy tickets
from any board member—Walt and Jenny Femling, Pete and Cheryl Kramer,
Sheryl Fullmer, Bob and Becky Dittmer, John and Nicola Brashears, or
Steve and Joan Anderson.
