Hobson race
returns Sunday
Skiers on Baldy
Easter Sunday 2004 has been
brightened even more by the 27th annual Hobson Memorial Race and picnic
scheduled for Sunday, April 11 on Baldy. Last year 147 skiers took part.
The Hobson family started the race
in memory of their father, Roy L. Hobson who passed away in 1960 and his
daughter, Sheila Dorothy Hobson-Dolsot, who died in 1980.
The casual race format and picnic,
which serves over 500 people, is open to all members of the Sun Valley
and Hailey Ski Teams. The top time in each age group, boy and girl, is
awarded a perpetual trophy that is displayed year round in the Sun
Valley Lodge.
In addition to the perpetual
trophy winners the Sun Valley Ski Team D team coaches recognize the boy
and girl who have demonstrated excellence in achievement in development
of skiing skills, sportsmanship and excellence in education with the
Sigi and Peggy Engl Award and The Howard Dean Award which is given to a
boy and girl who exhibit a love and passion for skiing.
The Hobson Memorial Race and
Picnic is run by parent volunteers, coaches, staff of the Sun Valley Ski
Education Foundation, with the support of the Sun Valley Company.
Mrs. Dorothy Hobson-Krumm provides
the trophies every year. This is an excellent family event that serves
as a final race and "end of the season" party for many of these young
athletes.
