Lauren Eder finishes with slalom gold

At Bachelor

Sun Valley Ski Team racer Lauren Eder, 15, clocked the second-fastest times in each run of the March 30 women’s slalom finale during the Western Region J1-J2 Junior Olympics at Mt. Bachelor, Ore.

Her consistency was a winner, though. Putting both excellent runs together, Eder claimed the slalom gold by .21 seconds on Bachelor’s 58-gate Thunderbird run. Teammate Charlotte Gourlay was 19th.

Eder finally displaced Laurenne Ross from the podium. Ross, 15, of Klamath Falls, Ore. had won the first three women’s races at Junior Olympics, where 160 of the West’s best 15-17 year olds competed. Ross placed fourth in the slalom won by Eder.

It wasn’t the easiest day for two-run finishers. Only 47 of the 64 women finished both runs, and just 44 of the 94 men completed two slalom runs. Top Sun Valley men’s times were posted by Lauren’s 18-year-old brother Jason Eder (5th) and Dixon Mooseau (7th).

"We had some excellent results," said coach Kenny Corrock.

There were 11 local men at Bachelor and four women. Here are placings of the March 30 slalom finale:

Women: Lauren Eder 1-SL; Charlotte Gourlay 19-SL; Amy Alexander 31-SL; Lauren Parsons 39-SL.

Men: Jason Eder 5-SL; Dixon Mooseau 7-SL; Hunter Storey 11-SL; Miles Fink-Debray 12-SL; Cameron Minor 17-SL; Slater Storey 21-SL; Corey Bellinger 33-SL.

At Red Lodge

The four-day Western Region FIS Tech Championships finished March 30 at Red Lodge, Mt. with Hailey Ski Team racer Dewey Moss, 16, continuing to post top results.

Moss, the slalom silver medalist March 27 and giant slalom silver medalist March 29, just finished off the podium with a fourth place in the GS finale. Sun Valley Ski Team racer Laura Speck was 12th GS.

There are 84 men and 46 women competing at Red Lodge, including 11 from the Sun Valley and Hailey teams. Here are local overall placings for the final races (2 GSs men, 1 GS women):

Men: Dewey Moss 2-GS, 4-GS; Willi Cannell 10-GS, 7-GS; Ben Luck 54-GS, 23-GS; John Anderson 25-GS, 28-GS; John David Davidson 35-GS, 44-GS; Derek Blash 59-GS, 54-GS.

Women: Laura Speck 12-GS; Lauren Rust 27-GS; Amanda Alexander 29-GS; Charlie Baser 31-GS; Kate Sawicz 37-GS.
