Snow Cup gates
are a last chance

GS, SL finales at Snowbird


The Intermountain Division’s 2003-04 alpine racing season wrapped up last weekend with the 61st running of the Snow Cup giant slaloms and Last Chance slaloms for 178 of this region’s best J1-J3 junior skiers at Snowbird in Utah.

Four days of giant slalom and slalom racing were held Friday through Monday. There were 35 members of the Sun Valley and Hailey ski teams in the field and they posted solid results on Primrose Path and Wilbere Ridge.

Sun Valley’s Robin Sarchett, 30, won Friday’s men’s GS with Zachary Brown, 20, placing second just .13 seconds behind. J2 Dewey Moss of Hailey took the silver in his class with an 11th place in Friday’s men’s GS.

Lauren Parsons of Sun Valley recorded a GS podium, placing third in Saturday’s women’s GS, eighth overall. J1 Amy Alexander picked up a third place in Saturday’s GS.

J3 boys’ podiums went to Tristan Brown (2nd SL), Soren Ireland (3rd SL) and Barrett Cincotta (3rd GS).

Here are last weekend’s top placings for the 35 Hailey and Sun Valley Ski Team racers at Targhee. In all, there were 178 racers, 105 men and 73 women competing over four days:

Older men (overall placings): Robin Sarchett 1-GS, 3-GS, 4-SL, 2-SL; Zachary Brown 2-GS, 7-SL, 3-SL; Andrew AJ Cronk 17-GS, 12-GS, 22-SL, 5-SL.

J1 men (class placings): Cameron Minor 6-GS, 5-GS; Hunter Storey 4-GS, 7-SL, 4-SL.

J1 women: Amy Alexander 3-GS.

J2 men: Dewey Moss 2-GS; Willi Cannell 5-GS, 4-GS, 11-SL, 4-SL; Corey Bellinger 9-GS, 7-GS, 14-SL; Tyler Chandler 10-GS, 8-SL, 7-SL; Kristian Timmons 6-GS, 9-SL; John D. Anderson 18-GS, 10-GS, 17-SL, 9-SL; John David Davidson 13-GS; Ben Luck 14-GS, 11-GS, 6-SL; Derek Blash 17-GS, 15-GS, 19-SL.
