GS silver for
Gourlay in JOs

At Bachelor

Turning in a lightning-quick second run, Sun Valley Ski Team racer Charlotte Gourlay earned a silver medal in giant slalom Sunday during the Western Region J1-J2 Junior Olympics at Mt. Bachelor, Ore.

Gourlay, 16, led a solid 2-4-6 showing by Sun Valley women in the two-run race. Lauren Eder finished fourth and Lauren Parsons sixth, as 52 of 65 women completed both runs.

A Wood River High School senior, Gourlay also placed sixth in Saturday’s super giant slalom, and was 27th in Friday’s women’s downhill at the prestigious race. She was one of the top combined racers entering Tuesday’s slalom finale.

Racing on her home course, Laurenne Ross, 15, of Klamath Falls, Ore. won the first three women’s races at Junior Olympics, where 160 of the West’s best 15-17 year olds competed.

For the 11 local men at Bachelor, best finishes in the first three races were Kristian Timmons eighth in super giant slalom, Cameron Minor ninth in downhill and Andrew Benson eighth in giant slalom.
