Despite losing large quantities of
snow to unusually warm weather over the past two weeks, Sun Valley Co.
is still planning to keep Bald Mountain open to skiing and snowboarding
through Sunday, April 18.
Jack Sibbach, Sun Valley marketing
and public relations director, said Monday that no changes have been
made to the company’s schedule for closing down skiing operations.
"The runs with snowmaking are
holding up exceptionally well," Sibbach said.

On Monday, March 22, Sun Valley
reported a machine-groomed snow base of 67 inches at the top of Bald
Mountain, 56 inches at mid-mountain and 38 inches at the base.
Since early March, temperatures in
the Ketchum-Sun Valley area have far exceeded the norms, with highs
climbing above 60 degrees.
On parts of Bald Mountain, the
snow base has dropped more than two feet since the last accumulation of
new snow on March 5.
"It has dropped quite a bit,"
Sibbach said.
Pursuant to a schedule released
last week, some facilities on Bald Mountain will close this weekend.
Roundhouse restaurant will remain
open through Sunday, March 28, which will also be the last day of
operation for the Lookout, Exhibition and Sunnyside chairlifts.
The Greyhawk and Cold Springs
lifts on Bald Mountain are scheduled to remain open through Sunday,
April 4.
Dollar Mountain and Dollar Cabin
will continue operation through Easter Sunday, April 11.
The Seattle Ridge Day Lodge and
the Seattle Ridge area of Bald Mountain—including the Mayday
chairlift—will also close after operations on April 11.
From April 12 through closing
April 18, Sun Valley will operate the River Run, Lookout Express,
Challenger, Christmas and Frenchman’s lifts.
