E.I. to award two
research grants
at symposium
The Expedition Inspiration Fund
for Breast Cancer Research will award two Outstanding Young Researcher
Grants during its Eighth Annual Laura Evans Memorial Breast
Cancer Symposium, which will be held in Sun Valley Feb. 25-29.
The announcements will take place
during the Open Forum, Thursday, Feb. 26, in the Limelight Room at the
Sun Valley Inn at 5 p.m.
Recipients are:
- Richard M. Neve, PhD,
University of San Francisco Comprehensive Cancer Center. His
research investigates the factors regulating the metastatic potential
of human breast cancers. Dr. Neve was nominated by Dr. Christopher
Benz, director of the Buck Institute in Novato, CA. Dr. Benz has been
a participant in Expedition Inspiration’s Medical Symposium several
times, including 2003 and 2004.
- Dr. Virginia Kaklamani,
Northwestern University, Department of Hematology/Oncology, will
also be awarded an Outstanding Young Researcher Grant for her research
related to familial breast cancer risk. She was recommended by Dr.
William Gradishar, director of Breast Medical Oncology, Northwestern
University and 2003 EI Symposium participant.
Breast cancer research scientists
from around the world will attend Expedition Inspiration’s Eighth Annual
Laura Evans Memorial Breast Cancer Symposium, titled, "Breast Cancer –
The Development and Validation of New Therapeutics". The symposium is
led by Marc Lippman, MD, Chair, Department of Internal Medicine,
University of Michigan Health System and Expedition Inspiration
Scientific Advisor.
Everyone is invited to attend the
Open Forum, which provides an opportunity for patients, family members,
medical professionals and members of the press to interact with the top
researchers from around the world. Commonly discussed topics include
clinical trials, new advances in research, alternative therapies,
estrogen replacement and preventative measures.
The Expedition Inspiration Fund
for Breast Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by breast cancer survivor
Laura Evans to raise awareness and research funds for the cause, as well
as to educate and support those affected by the disease. Expedition
Inspiration is headquartered in Ketchum.
