Ski joring livens
up the prairie

Winter weekend fun in Fairfield

Last weekend’s Smoky Mountain Ski Joring Association event in Fairfield picked up the excitement level on the Camas Prairie and provided two days of great winter fun.

Dumping snow and flat light Saturday didn’t prevent a spirited crowd from enjoying the horse-and-skier races on a flat course two miles east of Fairfield. The party in downtown Fairfield warmed everybody up afterward.

The course featuring two jumps was exactly the same Sunday, but the weather was much different—cold and breezy throughout the day. But the tailwind helped the racers slice their finishing times.

Smoky Mountain Ski Joring Association president Kurtis Stutz said the weekend event raised $1,260 for the Camas County Senior Center and $379.50 for Young Life, said.

The second SMSJA race of the 2004 season is scheduled for Feb. 21-22 in Hailey.
