Local team hosts freestyle race

The Sun Valley Freestyle Team gets one chance a year to show off on its home mogul course. This past weekend was that chance and the team did not disappoint.

With 34 Sun Valley freestylers in addition to teams from Utah and Montana, the field was full. Nonetheless, Sun Valley had an excellent showing with 13 local racers earning medals.

Fittingly, the Sun Valley freestylers performed far better under Saturday’s sunny skies than in Sunday’s hazy flat light. Sunday’s course was highlighted with orange paint and pine boughs to show racers the contours of the course in the flat light conditions.

Sun Valley’s only medalist in Sunday’s dual moguls was Austin Moses, who took third in his M4 class.

Other top performers from Saturday’s moguls were Austin Grill (M4), Aunika Phillips (F5), and Christine Cordeau (FS) who all took first in their divisions.
