get their first shot

The 24th annual Sun Valley Telemark Series debuted Saturday with a perfect day for 25 telemarkers and riders on Baldy’s Cozy ski run.

Hannah Ragsdale and Marcus Belanger took the Elite prizes in the Smith Sport Optics all-terrain race. Ryan Casey clocked the fastest single run of the day. Results:

Elite Men:
1—Marcus Belanger 2:11.47. 2—Lance Levy 2:11.73. 3—Buck Cobb 2:21.63. 4—Bill Rickard 2:22.22. 5—Dan McGregor 2:29.13. 6—Mike Hattrup 2:33.82.

Elite Women:

Men’s Sporto:

Special awards went to:

"Best Air," to Ryan Casey, for his dazzling big 360 heli.
"Best Crash," to Henry Munter, for his somersault over the jump. And...
"Best Extra Effort," went to Mike Hattrup, for hiking back up the hill.

The next series race is the Rotarun Ripper organized by Mike Kraynick on Friday, Feb. 20 in Hailey. All proceeds in the Fat Tire-sponsored race series go to the Avalanche Hotline, Expedition Inspiration, Sun Valley Adaptive Sports and Galena Backountry Ski Patrol.
