Suns add four January games with Moose
The premier senior men’s hockey teams in
the region—the Sun Valley Suns and Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Moose—will be playing
each other four more times this winter for a record total of eight meetings.
Since the six-year series started in 1997,
Jackson Hole currently holding a 15-8-1 advantage, the two Intermountain rivals
have never clashed more than four times in a season.
Suns general manager John Stevens
announced Sunday that Jackson Hole and Sun Valley have added home-and-home
series in January, in addition to their previously scheduled March home-and-home
sets.
Game cancellations for both teams with
visiting squads from Minnesota caused the changes, Stevens said. The Moose ended
December with a 9-1 record while the Suns are 3-1 on their still-young season.
Jackson Hole will visit Sun Valley Friday
and Saturday, Jan. 23-24, then the Suns will visit Wyoming on Super Bowl
weekend, Jan. 30-31, for two more games. In March, Jackson comes here March
12-13 and Sun Valley travels March 19-20.
This coming weekend, the Suns will help
the newly-formed Manchester Ice Mountaineers christen the $6.2 million
Manchester Ice and Event Center in McCall with two games, Friday and Saturday,
Jan. 16-17 at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers are comprised of former
Idaho Steelhead minor leaguers, many who have played for the Boise Blades senior
men’s team.
