A Hailey man was arrested Saturday, Jan.
3, on an attempted murder warrant out of Jefferson County, Colo.
Patrick J. O’Shea, 53, was arrested
Saturday morning when he returned to a van that he had left on the city’s Main
Street overnight, said Hailey Police Chief Brian McNary. When police ran the
van’s license plates prior to nighttime snow removal efforts, the plates
returned as stolen. Three pairs of stolen license plates were also discovered
inside the van, McNary said.
When he returned for the van in the
morning, police placed him under arrest and discovered the Colorado warrant.
McNary said O’Shea was going by the alias
James Smith while living in Hailey. He said he did not know where O’Shea had
been working, although O’Shea told the chief he had been working as a plumber.
O’Shea, a native of Ireland, is being held
at the Blaine County Jail pending extradition to Colorado.
McNary said he was told by Colorado
authorities that O’Shea is accused of trying to kill a friend in a scheme that
included candles and filling a home full of natural gas.
