in World Cup tech

No big breakthroughs

U.S. Ski Team alpine racers didn’t have any breakthroughs in World Cup races this past week, although Kristina Koznick placed fifth in Tuesday’s slalom in Italy.

Sweden’s Anja Paerson continued her dominance of the women’s World Cup circuit by winning her second SL of the season Tuesday at Madonna di Campiglio.

Last weekend there were two first-time World Cup giant slalom winners in make-up races at Alta Badia, Italy.

They were reigning World Cup SL king Kalle Palander of Finland and first-time winner Denise Karbon, Italy.

World Cup GS leader Bode Miller, after DNFing three speed races Dec. 5-7 at Beaver Creek, bounced back with a fourth place at Alta Badia. Koznick finished 15th in the women’s giant slalom.

U.S. racer Chip Knight was 10th in Monday’s night slalom at Madonna di Campilio.
