Sean Higgins aces
Park City SLs

Two wins for DU prospect


Community School graduate Sean Higgins gave Sun Valley and Denver University prestige a shot in the arm Saturday and Sunday by sweeping the Eric Hayes Memorial slaloms staged for 225 juniors at Park City.

Higgins, 18, who races for the DU Pioneers, won the first run of Saturday’s Intermountain J1-J3 Open Series slalom, then held on to prevail by .03 seconds over Miles Cooke of Park City in the field of 100 two-run finishers.

Sunday, Higgins won both runs and extended his victory over Cooke to 1.05 seconds. The best giant slalom result for Higgins in the four-race series was an place in Friday’s GS.

Sun Valley’s Robin Sarchett, 29, enjoyed a consistent week of results with fourth- and sixth-place overall finishes in GS, and two ninths in SL. For the women, former Hailey resident Hailey Duke was fourth in slalom Sunday—the third J1.

Dixon Mooseau of Sun Valley won the J2 men’s class in Saturday’s SL and was 11th overall. Lauren Eder of Sun Valley cracked the top ten with a ninth-place in Sunday’s slalom. She was the second J2 in class placings.

There were 85 women and 140 men in the field. Here are weekend-best class placings by discipline for the 50 Sun Valley and Hailey ski teamers and other skiers raised here:
