Head Start
program announces
fund-raiser raffle
The Head Start program in the Wood River
Valley will hold it’s annual fund-raising raffle Friday, Dec. 19.
Tickets will be sold by students and their
parents at the William’s Market, Albertson’s, Valley Market and both Atkinsons’
grocery stores Friday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a variety of
prizes available, all of which have been donated by local businesses and
citizens.
The National Head Start Association is a
private not-for-profit membership organization dedicated exclusively to meeting
the needs of Head Start children and their families. The association provides
support for the entire Head Start community by advocating for policies that
strengthen services to Head Start children and their families; by providing
extensive training and professional development to Head Start staff; and by
developing and disseminating research, information, and resources that enrich
the community.
The students participating at the Hailey
Head Start preschool have special learning needs and/or financial restrictions.
The students are taught English and Hispanic educational courses, healthy
habits, social skills, and physical activities and participate in various field
trips. As a non-profit organization, every penny counts and the proceeds from
the raffle will support the school’s 2004 programs.

In another means to raise funds,
Albertson’s Food Store is offering their Community Partner’s Card to anybody who
wishes to support Head Start. The card is free and 2 percent of all purchases
will go directly to the Hailey group. If you are interested in using the card
and helping raise funds, call Melissa Olson at 788-0082 for your free card.
In June 2004, the Hailey Head Start will
move from their current location at 313 North Main Street to the new CSI campus
at the old high school. Some of the money raised with the raffle is earmarked
for new equipment at that location. If you have any playground equipment, books,
toys, fencing material or personal skills you’d like to donate to the new
facility, please call Melissa at 788-0082.
