The Blaine County School District Board
of Trustees appointed Julie Slocum Dahlgren, of Ketchum, to serve as the
trustee for Trustee Zone No. 5 to fill the term of Claudia Fiaschetti, who
resigned in July. The appointment was made at a special meeting Wednesday,
Sept. 24.
Dahlgren was employed by the Blaine
County School District as a Language Arts teacher at Wood River Middle School
for 13 years and twice served as president of the Blaine County Education
Association. She retired at the end of the last school year.
Dahlgren and her husband Dick have a
daughter who is a freshman at the Wood River High School.
"I’ve always been a politically active
person," Dahlgren said. "I’d always thought it could be another step in my
career. I was going to run in May but it came up early."
However, since the seat on the board
came as an appointment, she will have to decide in May whether she’ll run
again for a full term.
Dahlgren also served on the Resolutions
Committee of the Idaho Education Association. However, "I have to transition
to a totally different role (on the Board of Trustees) because of my
educational background," she said. "A well balanced board is awesome for the
school district."
The Zone 5 boundaries are the east side
of Blaine County, east of Highway 75, from East Fork north through Ketchum to
the Custer County line.
A trustee’s duties and responsibilities,
in part, are attending regular monthly and special board member meetings,
establishing educational policies, determining personnel policies and
determining the educational and administrative structure of the school system.
