Hailey artist receives nod for work

By DANA DUGAN
Express Staff Writer

Hailey and Montana resident, Theodore Waddell was recently presented with the 2003 Caritas Award from the St. Patrick Memorial Hospital in Missoula, Mont.

Waddell was cited for his "profoundly positive impact upon the healing environment" by Dr. Herbert Swick at the hospital’s inaugural art and healing program where 35 of his painting prints and drawings have been displayed.

Waddell is a nationally known Western landscape artist whose specialty is his use of broad strokes of thick paint capturing mountains, fields and skies.

Born and raised in Montana, Waddell studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, received a bachelor's degree from Eastern Montana College and an master’s from Wayne State University in sculpture and printmaking.

His work is currently on display at the Gail Severn Gallery in Ketchum in a show titled "Visions of the American West." The exhibit will remain up through October with works in conjunction with the annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival. The gallery is located at 400 First Ave., North.
