Cyclist Feldman wins world race, again
In Austria
Ketchum cyclist Richard Feldman rode to
his second UCI World Time Trial championship Aug. 27 on a 19.7-kilometer course
at St. Johann, Austria.
Feldman, owner and sole operator of
Durance Cycleworks in Ketchum, completed the course in 24 minutes and 50
seconds. It was over a minute faster than his world championship ride in 2001.
Averaging 29.63 miles per hour, Feldman
beat 70 racers in the field of his 30-39 year-old men’s class. He also logged
the fastest time of the day among all 580 racers competing.
Feldman was the only rider to finish in
under 25 minutes.
He said, "My first world championship came
with a great deal of awe and amazement. This world championship feels like a
confirmation—that 2001 wasn’t a fluke."
The second- and third-place racers from
Finland and Poland finished 16 and 39 seconds, respectively, off U.S. racer
Feldman’s winning pace.
Feldman and Durance Cycleworks are
sponsored by local companies Trinity Springs and Wood River Technologies.
National sponsorship comes from Lehman Brothers, Time and Selle Italia.
"I really want to thank my sponsors for
their generosity over the years. Their support really makes a difference,"
Feldman said.
