Hinds, Wygle capture women’s golf honors

Judith Hinds and Jan Wygle took top honors in the ninth annual Sun Valley Women’s Invitational golf tournament staged Wednesday and Thursday on two valley golf courses.

Hinds and Wygle (75-77 for 152-136) won gross stroke honors in the nine-team "A" flight by a single stroke over Linda Cadwell and Barbie Morgan (75-78 for 153-130).

Net honors in the "A" flight went to Joan O’Neil and Louge Malouf.

In all, 76 players on 38 teams took part in the "It Happened in Sun Valley," tournament staged on the Sun Valley and Valley Club golf courses.

Other flight winners in gross stroke totals were Candy Ryan and Becky Parks, Janet Cantor and Pat McGinnis, and Sandra Fisher and Vicki Thornton.

Net winners were Bonnie Hutchinson and Susan Carlton, Gail Lincoln and Deb Sievers, and Penny Coe and Wendy Pesky.

The tournament chairman was Jeannine Burns assisted by Liz David.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Jeannine Burns (#17 Sun Valley) and Carole Jackson (#2 Valley Club), while the longest drive prizes went to Barbie Morgan (#8 Sun Valley) and Janet Cantor (#10 Valley Club).

"A" Flight: First gross—Judith Hinds and Jan Wygle 75-77 for 152-136. Second gross—Linda Cadwell and Barbie Morgan 75-78 for 153-130.

First net—Joan O’Neil and Louge Malouf 77-80 for 157-123. Second net—Julie Dillon and Gay Emery 82-80 for 162-129. Third net—Lynn Kaplan and Sue Holzer 83-83 for 166-133.

"B" Flight: First gross—Candy Ryan and Becky Parks 76-80 for 156-118. Second gross—Karen Mahoney and Sandy McCullough 79-78 for 157-127.

First net—Bonnie Hutchinson and Susan Carlton 84-85 for 169-126 (won in a scorecard playoff with a 33-32 back nine). Second net—Lyn Morgan and Robin Anderson 80-81 for 160-126. Third net—Laurie Erickson and Kathy Lind 83-84 for 167-128.

"C" Flight: First gross—Janet Cantor and Pat McGinnis 82-85 for 167-124. Second gross—Becky Biedebach and Christine Dimaggio 84-87 for 171-127.

First net—Gail Lincoln and Deb Sievers 88-82 for 170-124. Second net—Jackie Maritz and P.K. Murphy 89-83 for 172-131. Third net—Barb Shelton and Carole Almond 92-89 for 181-134.

"D" Flight: First gross—Sandra Fisher and Vicki Thornton 83-84 for 167-121. Second gross—Nancy Winton and Claire Bailey 87-86 for 173-117.

First net—Penny Coe and Wendy Pesky 87-85 for 172-112. Second net—Joanne Wetherell and Carole Jackson 89-86 for 175-122. Third net—Ursula Hinson and Corky Williams 87-92 for 179-128.
