Lefty’s kicks off the season in Missoula
It was a long drive, but a good showing for Lefty’s at the first annual Rob Myslik Memorial Soccer Tournament in Missoula, MT., June 21-22.
Lefty’s finished 2-0-1 with one shutout in the 10-team tilt, but did not make it out of pool play based on goal-differential.
Stevie Fostvedt recorded the game-winning score in a 3-2 opening round victory over the Missoula Strikers U-19 team. John Gerdis and Nic Hanscom also twined the ball. Assists were served up by Robin Sarchett and Matti
Nicolini.
Same score and same outcome for game #2 against the Weber Futbol Club. Weber found the far corner to break open a scoreless tie early in the second half.
Lefty’s came right back with the equalizer by Josh Stanek from John Campbell.
Utah took a 2-1 lead on a fluky goal, but Fostvedt answered with a penalty kick to tie it at 2-2. Mike Flarety and John Gerdis teamed up for the game-winner. The lead held up thanks to an outstanding performance in goal by Chatham Baker, who shut down two breakaways.
Pool champion Jackson Hole and Ketchum dueled to a 0-0 draw in the final bracket game.
“Unfortunately, the offense was unable to score despite many opportunities,” player Rob Butterfield remarked.
Also suiting up at Missoula were Shaun Kelly, Steve Walker, Quinn Orb, Austin McCann, Chad Montgomery and Olaf Denver.
Lefty’s returns to the pitch this weekend at Park City. The team would like to thank its sponsors Lefty’s Bar & Grill, KB’s Burritos, Sub Shack and Sun Valley Insurance.
The Laurent Perrier women’s team will also travel to Utah to participate in the Park City women’s tournament.
