Wood River Cup draws crowds
Mountain bikers at Rotarun
Rotarun Ski Area is the
epicenter of competitive mountain biking in the valley.
Last Wednesday’s Wood River
Cup Race was the first race of the season and many people came out to watch.
Races are run on a
three-quarter mile dirt track with topographical challenges that vary week to
week.
Kids under the age of 12 race
in the national Shimano Youth Series, held on a separate, flatter track to help
those tikes get a handle on their rides.
Races are held every
Wednesday for the next four weeks and start at 6 p.m. The first event each week
will be the women’s race, to be followed by junior races and finishing up with
men’s races scheduled to start at 7:45.
Billy Olson is the
coordinator of the series and the director of Sun Valley Road & Dirt camps.
Olson was pleased with both the spectator and competitor turnouts Wednesday—22
guys raced in three categories.
Olson also wanted to
congratulate Corey Bellinger on an outstanding night winning both his age
category and the men’s sport class.
Finals for the Wood River Cup
will be held on July 2. Call Billy Olson for any and all details at 788-9184.
