CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
· Budweiser
22, Wicked Spud/Tune-Up Express 18
In a wild game featuring 40 runs
and 48 hits, Budweiser (25 hits) came out swinging and built a 22-7 cushion—10
of those runs unearned—before Wicked Spud (23 hits) showed it wasn’t dead yet by
rallying for 10 runs on 8 hits in the seventh and final inning. In the Bud
first, two Spud errors and a 2-run double by Terri Sherbine helped the visitors
to a 4-0 lead. Bud made it 9-2 after two complete when T.J. Peterson (3 hits, 4
RBI) cracked a grand slam HR. The lead stretched to 14-2 in the third, Sarah
Kolash burning the Spud outfield with an RBI triple and Geoff Sjoberg (3 hits)
bringing her home. It became 17-7 in the fifth, Benjy Walker (2 hits, 2 runs)
and Scott Call (2 hits, 3 runs) legging out RBI triples. Then, in the sixth, a
leadoff triple by T.J. Peterson and RBI single by Anna Kolash (3 hits, 2 runs)
sparked a 5-run uprising for a 22-7 advantage. In the home seventh, two Bud
infield errors opened the floodgates for the top of the Spud batting order,
which delivered big time. Three straight singles by Buddy Isom (2 hits, 3 runs),
Kim McAtee (3 hits, 3 runs) and Phil Castle brought clean-up hitter Brigette
Gross (2 hits, 4 RBI) to the plate—and she gapped a 3-run double. Mike Kluge
(3-for-3, 4 RBI) ripped a 2-run HR and Chaundera Wolfe (2 hits) drilled a 2-run
double that one-hopped to the outfield fence. After sending up 11 batters
without making an out, Wicked Spud finally hit a couple of catchable outfield
flies and its 10-run rally ended on a line drive. Budweiser: Bobbi Edwards 3
hits and 2 runs, Buddy Peterson 3 hits and 2 RBI, Cynatra Peterson 3 hits and 3
runs. Wicked Spud: Jim Bradley 2 hits, Kathy Kerrick 2 runs, Brian Nelson 2 hits
and 2 runs, Mike Watson 4-for-4, Dave Ovard 2 hits and 2 RBI.
