Springfest brings
arts and crafts to
south valley

By DANA DUGAN

The 18th Annual Springfest is the first of the city of Hailey’s big parties for the warm season to come. Sponsored by the Hailey Chamber of Commerce, the fun takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, at Roberta McKercher Park. Booths are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

There will be a myriad of things to do, see, listen to and purchase. Food vendors offer everything from hot dogs and hamburgers to home made cookies, lemonade, popcorn, teriyaki bowls, gyros, baked potatoes and barbecue.

"This fair is specifically handmade arts and crafts," Hailey Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Natalie Turner said. "That’s what makes it unique."

Among the items for sale in the booths are jewelry, furniture, pottery, garden décor and clothing.

"There are a few service things that I think will be nice additions; a massage therapist doing mini massages and a fortuneteller, for instance," Turner said.

And then there’s the entertainment lineup that’s been expanded this year.

"It’s all day, every day. That’s new," Turner said. "And a lot of times people just show up for demonstrations."

Rick Hoel, an acoustic guitarist, opens each day of the festival with a performance at 10 a.m.

Guitarist Michael White takes the stage 11:30 a.m. Saturday and again on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Wood River Valley-based Kim Stocking Band rocks the park Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m., and on Sunday they play from noon to 1 p.m.

The youngsters who participate in the Wood River Gymnastics program offer a demonstration 1 p.m. Saturday. The Sawtooth Martial Arts organization will give a demonstration of their skills on Sunday.

Eboni izs Jammin'—karaoke—offers up a participation variety of entertainment 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Activities for kids include the always-popular moon bounce house and a climbing wall.

Springfest is one of the biggest fund-raising events of the year for the Hailey Chamber. It’s also a dandy way to revisit friends and neighbors in the amicable burg of Hailey.
