Hailey relay team wins medley
The prep track season officially got
underway at the Angie Wyatt Invitational at Bruin Stadium in Twin Falls last
Wednesday.
The 15th annual meet attracted
17 teams from around the region and lit a fire in the competitors’ bellies.
Six meet records were broken, including
three in the relays.
Wood River senior pacer Mike Sinnott, a
standout on the Sun Valley cross country ski team, put all his cross training to
good use, to win the 800-meter race in 2:05.8, nipping runner-up Drew Johnson of
Burley by 1/100th of a second.
The Wolverines topped Filer and Kimberly
in the medley relay, winning in 3:49.1 with Chad Hayward, Steven Fields, Matt
Pruett and Dylan Welcome. The same four runners grabbed second place in the
4x200 in 1:37.3.
Bolstered by Sinnott’s first place finish
and the strong showing in the relays, Wood River finished eighth out of 17 with
31.5. points. Filer and Gooding tied for first place with 83 points apiece.
The host Wildcats won the girls’ meet with
90 points. Malad was second with 69 and Burley third with 68. Wood River placed
13th out of 17 with 16.5 points.
The highlight for the Wood River girls was
Jessica King’s third-place finish in the shotput. Buhl’s Abelee Esparza set a
meet record in the event with a toss of 38-.5. King’s best throw was 33-6.
Syringa Stark was fifth with a toss of 31-7.
In the running events, Kelsea Ballantyne
finished fourth in the 800-meters (2:42) and Natalie Green was sixth (2:43).
Rachael Richards was sixth in the 3200-meter race in 14:20.
The 4x100 relay team with Rebecca
Scwartzenberger, Kortnee King, Noylin Corrales and Caitlin Blanton ran to fourth
in 54.3.

Gooding Invitational, today, April 16.
