Town tennis teams tangle with Twin
Bruins bust out
The Twin Falls tennis team is your typical
5A powerhouse: talented, deep and confident. The self-assured attitude they
display is borne of an undefeated season, but Wood River almost put a glitch
into the Bruins thus far perfect record.
In Hailey on Friday, Wood River played the
Bruins to a 7-5 loss, which could be considered a very successful outing against
Twin.
The Wolverines swept mixed doubles behind
the play of Hunter Storey/Jessie Woodyard, and Danny Gariepy/Hadley DeBree.
Storey and Woodyard outlasted Troy Barnum
and Amanda Hower, winning a tough third-set tiebreaker 7-3.
Allison Kelsey and Abby Fairman were also
three-set champions in #2 girls’ doubles.
Amanda Parks prevailed in #1 girls’
singles 6-1, 6-2 and Ellie France dominated her opponent in the #3 match,
winning 6-1, 6-0.
Hosting Burley in Hailey Thursday, the
Wolverines and Bobcats played to a 6-6 draw.
Wood River swept girls’ singles with
Hadley DeBree, Amanda Parks and Ellie France all winning in straight sets.
The Wolverines prevailed in each of the #1
doubles matches with Ashley Lakey and Kiette Tucker winning in girls’ doubles
(7-5, 6-2), Danny Garipey and Tristan Potters prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) in
boys’ pairs, and Hunter Storey and Jessie Woodyard won mixed pairs.
The Wolverines won the junior varsity
matchup 9-2.
Wood River travels to Jerome Wednesday,
Minico Friday and hosts Mountain Home Saturday.
Community School
The two-time defending state champion
Community School fell to Twin Falls 9-3 on the Bruins homecourts Thursday.
It was the Cutthroats first meet of the
season and coach Mark Scribner thought his team performed admirably.
"We did very well coming out for our first
time," he said. "I was impressed with their concentration and their demeanor on
and off the court."
Ketchum/Sun Valley’s wins were all in
singles with Tyler Martin and Joel Evans winning in the boys’ division and
Jordan White claiming #1 girls singles.
Ketchum/Sun Valley plays its first home
meet of the season this Friday against Declo.
