Town tennis teams tangle with Twin

Bruins bust out

The Twin Falls tennis team is your typical 5A powerhouse: talented, deep and confident. The self-assured attitude they display is borne of an undefeated season, but Wood River almost put a glitch into the Bruins thus far perfect record.

In Hailey on Friday, Wood River played the Bruins to a 7-5 loss, which could be considered a very successful outing against Twin.

The Wolverines swept mixed doubles behind the play of Hunter Storey/Jessie Woodyard, and Danny Gariepy/Hadley DeBree.

Storey and Woodyard outlasted Troy Barnum and Amanda Hower, winning a tough third-set tiebreaker 7-3.

Allison Kelsey and Abby Fairman were also three-set champions in #2 girls’ doubles.

Amanda Parks prevailed in #1 girls’ singles 6-1, 6-2 and Ellie France dominated her opponent in the #3 match, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Hosting Burley in Hailey Thursday, the Wolverines and Bobcats played to a 6-6 draw.

Wood River swept girls’ singles with Hadley DeBree, Amanda Parks and Ellie France all winning in straight sets.

The Wolverines prevailed in each of the #1 doubles matches with Ashley Lakey and Kiette Tucker winning in girls’ doubles (7-5, 6-2), Danny Garipey and Tristan Potters prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) in boys’ pairs, and Hunter Storey and Jessie Woodyard won mixed pairs.

The Wolverines won the junior varsity matchup 9-2.

Wood River travels to Jerome Wednesday, Minico Friday and hosts Mountain Home Saturday.

Community School

The two-time defending state champion Community School fell to Twin Falls 9-3 on the Bruins homecourts Thursday.

It was the Cutthroats first meet of the season and coach Mark Scribner thought his team performed admirably.

"We did very well coming out for our first time," he said. "I was impressed with their concentration and their demeanor on and off the court."

Ketchum/Sun Valley’s wins were all in singles with Tyler Martin and Joel Evans winning in the boys’ division and Jordan White claiming #1 girls singles.

Ketchum/Sun Valley plays its first home meet of the season this Friday against Declo.
