Peaking at right time

Peaking at the right time, Sun Valley Ski Team 18-year-old stars Zach Brown and Sean Higgins enjoyed excellent back-to-back results at the Pacific Crest Cup giant slaloms March 27-28 at Sugar Bowl, California.

Brown won Thursday’s men’s GS in a 57-racer field by .73 seconds over Erik Fisher, 18, of Park City, Utah. Higgins placed seventh overall. In Friday’s GS, Brown finished second .45 seconds off the winning pace. Higgins was sixth.

Boise State University racer Hailey Duke was fourth and 13th in the women’s GSs.

Duke added a second place and fifth in the Pacific Crest slaloms March 29-30 at Kirkwood, Ca. Brown finished fifth and Higgins 13th in the Saturday men’s slalom.

The Western Region Technical FIS races were sponsored by Far West Ski Association.

Brown and Higgins join the upper level field for the Western Region Elite FIS Spring Series April 7-12 at Mammoth Mountain, Ca. Other Sun Valley racers expected to race are Carl Rixon Jr., Wes Powell and Cassidy Doucette. First alternate is Charlotte Gourlay.
