Peaking at the right time, Sun Valley Ski
Team 18-year-old stars Zach Brown and Sean Higgins enjoyed excellent
back-to-back results at the Pacific Crest Cup giant slaloms March 27-28 at Sugar
Bowl, California.
Brown won Thursday’s men’s GS in a
57-racer field by .73 seconds over Erik Fisher, 18, of Park City, Utah. Higgins
placed seventh overall. In Friday’s GS, Brown finished second .45 seconds off
the winning pace. Higgins was sixth.
Boise State University racer Hailey Duke
was fourth and 13th in the women’s GSs.
Duke added a second place and fifth in the
Pacific Crest slaloms March 29-30 at Kirkwood, Ca. Brown finished fifth and
Higgins 13th in the Saturday men’s slalom.
The Western Region Technical FIS races
were sponsored by Far West Ski Association.
Brown and Higgins join the upper level
field for the Western Region Elite FIS Spring Series April 7-12 at Mammoth
Mountain, Ca. Other Sun Valley racers expected to race are Carl Rixon Jr., Wes
Powell and Cassidy Doucette. First alternate is Charlotte Gourlay.
Super giant slalom for men and women is
April 7-8, followed by men’s slalom and women’s giant slalom April 9-10, and
men’s giant slalom and women’s slalom April 11-12.
