Snow Cup brings
167 to Snowbird

Sugar Bowl tech races, too

The presence of U.S. Ski Team racers and top collegians made for some good FIS points for junior racers at the 60th annual Snowbird Snow Cup March 29-30 at Snowbird, Utah.

U.S. national teamers Resi Stiegler, 17, of Wilson, Wyo. and Jake Zamansky, 21, of Carbondale, Colo. won back-to-back giant slaloms in the 167-racer field—Stiegler by 3.7 and 2.5 seconds, and Zamansky by 1.5 and .20 seconds.

Sun Valley Ski Team J2 (ages 15-16) racer Lauren Parsons, 15, had a pair of excellent results. She was 10th overall of 62 two-run women Saturday and 13th Sunday—cracking the top ten of her age class in both cases.

In a quality field of 102 men, Sun Valley’s J2 Slater Storey collected a pair of sixth-place class finishes by placing 18th and 20th overall.

There were 105 men and 62 women competing. They ranged from the U.S. Ski Team members to collegiate alpine skiers and talented juniors from Idaho, Wyoming and Utah.

The following are top weekend GS placings for the 23 Sun Valley and Hailey ski teamers at Snowbird:

J1 women: 3—Abby Dubois.

J2 men: 6—Slater Storey. 7—Dewey Moss. 8—Willi Cannell and Hunter Storey. 12—Kristian Timmons.

At Sugar Bowl

Several of last weekend’s Snow Cup racers from Sun Valley spent four days competing in the Western Tech Championships March 20-23 at Sugar Bowl in California.

Sun Valley’s Sage Pressman had a particularly good race series, placing fourth in giant slalom, and fifth and third in women’s slalom. Jason Eder of Hailey, who attends school in Utah, was fifth in GS, 9th and 6th SL.

Here are some of the other best-of-series finishes for the local skiers who took part in the 112-racer field:

Women: Amy Alexander 6-SL; Abby Dubois 8-GS; Lauren Parsons 13-GS; and Danielle Maniere 22-SL.

Men: Ash Higgins 12-SL; Cameron Minor 17-SL; Hunter Storey 21-SL; and Bryce Newcomb 35-GS.
