Silver, bronze at
worlds for U.S.
SG openers at St. Moritz
It was a great start in super giant slalom
for the U.S. Ski Team at the 2003 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships in St.
Moritz, Switz. After two events, the U.S. and Austria are tied 3-3 in medal
count.
New Hampshire’s Bode Miller, starting
23rd, won the silver medal Sunday in the SG opener won by his chief rival for
the World Cup overall title, Stephan Eberharter of Austria.
Tying Miller for second place a full .77
seconds behind Eberharter was Austria’s comeback kid Hermann Maier. Defending
world SG king Daron Rahlves settled for 22nd.
In Monday’s women’s SG, Kirsten Clark and
Jonna Mendes went silver and bronze—Clark missing the gold by just .02 seconds.
