Iraq war

The Blaine County Commissioners last week
sent a resolution to President George Bush opposing military action in Iraq.
The approximately one-page document,
passed unanimously during a meeting Thursday, was also sent to the Idaho
congressional delegation and to Blaine County’s state legislative
representatives.
Among other things, the resolution states
that:
- Adequate proof of Iraq’s
development of weapons of mass destruction has not been presented to the
American people.
- The president should put the country’s
youth at risk only when absolutely necessary to protect its survival.
- An attack on Iraq will increase hatred
toward the United States from Muslims.
The resolution was passed a few days after about 150 people participated in a
peace march in Ketchum.
According to the Cities for Peace program of the Institute for Policy
Studies, a liberal think tank in Washington, D.C., 52 cities and counties around
the country have passed resolutions opposing war in Iraq.
