Sun Valley stuffs foes in
Boise
You can’t blame
the boys on the Sun Valley High School hockey team if they were walking with a
bit of a swagger last weekend.
After all, the
Suns wiped out the competition in the Idaho High School Hockey Tournament in
Boise, Nov. 29-Dec.1.
The undefeated
Suns (8-0) went 5-0 in the tilt, scoring 29 goals and allowing just one.
The Suns worked
off their turkey and gravy by stuffing Capital 6-0 Friday morning.
Tate Mills and
Zach Bloomfield scored two goals apiece. Single scores were slipped in by Kellen
Chatterton and Sinjin Thomas.
Eagle High School
gave the Suns their toughest game of the weekend, a 2-1 final. A goal by Mills
lifted the Suns to a 1-0 lead in the first period.
Eagle held the
Suns at bay until late in the third when Alex Sholes broke through on an assist
by Taylor Rothgeb. Eagle cut the lead to one, scoring with 40 seconds remaining
in the game, but the Suns held on for their fifth win of the season.
Wins number 6, 7
and 8 came against Meridian, Boise High School and Bishop Kelly by respective
scores of 6-0, 8-0 and 7-0.
The Suns were
paced in the series by three players who posted eight points apiece; Tate Mills,
Zach Bloomfield and Taylor Rothgeb.
Also scoring were
Kellen Chatterton 4/2; Noah Loyd 5/0; Matt Fairfax 0/5; Pat Mullen 0/4; Alex
Sholes 2/1; Danny Gariepy 1/2; Sinjin Thomas 1/1; Luke Livingston 1/0; Ryan
Blackadar 0/1; and Jason Heiner 0/1.
