Big wins in Boise
Opening
its 30-game 2002-03 season with a bang, the Wood River High School boys’
ice hockey team swept three Boise-area opponents by scores of 6-4, 8-1
and 7-0 Friday and Saturday in Boise.
Wood
River, coached by Cruger Thomas, outshot its three foes 95-27 and
thoroughly dominated the play.
Friday,
Wood River outshot Caldwell 33-16 and won 6-4 as Ryne Reynoso (5 goals
and 3 assists weekend) scored a pair of goals. Zac Bloomfield, Sinjin
Thomas and Taylor Rothgeb added singles. Hailey goalie Joey Bohl made 12
saves.
Saturday’s
8-1 victory over Boise High featured two goals apiece by Noah Lloyd (5-1
for 6 points) and Ryne Reynoso, and singles by Kellen Chatterton (1-4
for 5) and Tate Mills (1-2 for 3 weekend).
The final
game at Boise Ice World was a chippy 7-0 Suns victory over Capital High
School. Lloyd had the three-goal hat trick and Rothgeb (3-3 for 6) added
two goals.
Wood
River has five players from Salmon including Ryan Blackadar, but other
locals on the 18-player roster are Matt Fairfax, Danny Gariepy, Jason
Heiner, Max Kuross, Patrick Mullen and Tyson Reynoso.
Next
action takes place over Thanksgiving weekend in Boise. Wood River and
other teams are aiming for the state championship March 8 in Boise.
