SV5B topples meet records

Swimmers from Sun Valley shattered a number of meet records during the Idaho Falls Swim Team "Spook Splash 2002," meet for 168 kids from Idaho and Wyoming Oct. 25-26 in the Idaho Falls Aquatic Center.

Mollie Parker, 17, a Wood River High School senior, amassed five first-place finishes and cracked meet records in each race she won. Parker won her overall age class with the following record finishes and times:

First places for Parker—200 IM (2:20.52); 100 free (56.54); 100 breast (1:12.79); 100 butterfly (1:04.72); and 50 free (25.62).

Also setting meet records for the 14-swimmer Sun Valley 5B swim team at Idaho Falls were Michele Lowry, 15, and Amanda Harris, 15, and Katie Bryson, 16.

Lowry set girls’ 15 meet records in winning 200 IM (2:18.55), 500 free (5:32.31) and 100 back (1:02.15). Harris cracked records in winning girls' 15 races at 100 free (57.08) and 200 free (2:09.64). Harris also won the 50 freestyle event to place third overall of 11 swimmers in her class.

Katie Bryson, 16, established a meet record in winning 500 free (5:54.55). She also captured 200 free and 100 breast in girls’ 16 and ended up second overall in her class, just ahead of teammate Chloe Fuller.

Anja Sundali swept the golds in her five events at girls’ 14. Tristan Tanner placed second overall of 12 boys in the 12-year-old class by winning 500 free and 50 backstroke.

Racheal McGinnis, 11, won 100 and 50 free in the girls’ 11 category, helping her to third place overall out of 28 girls in her class. And Sage Howe won 25 free and butterfly in the girls’ 7-and-under age class.

In all, SV5B captured 25 golds. Here are the best-of-meet placings:
