Two tourney
wins
for rugby team
At Pocatello meet
"The
team played way over their heads," said Bald Mountain Rugby
Football Club coach Scott Huffman about his team’s effort in last
weekend’s 10-team Portneuf Valley Invitational tournament in
Pocatello.
Bald
Mountain, in its first competition of the fall season, won two of its
three games at Pocatello. The 16-player traveling team beat Portneuf
Valley 29-12 and also posted a 17-15 triumph over Bozeman (Mont.).
Scoring
five-point tries for Bald Mountain were loose forward Jeff Boyd (3
tries), standoff Danny Palmer, outside center Rodney Harten and Mike
Ward. Boyd made a penalty kick and two PAT conversions, and Eric Diemmer
succeeded on a PAT.
In its
first game of the weekend, Bald Mountain lost 44-0 to 2001 divisional
champion University of Utah.
Others
making the trip for Bald Mountain were captain Rob Swanson, Mike Pfau,
Jeff Rust, Terry Coe, Milton Brooks, Paul Downey, John Grubbs, Cliff
Logsdon, Morgan Mecham, Daniel Barnes and Bob from Jerome, who also
scored a try.
Bald
Mountain has its first home game of the fall season Saturday, Sept. 21
against Idaho State University at 1 p.m. at O’Donnell Field up
Slaughterhouse Canyon, Bellevue.
New
players are always welcome. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30
p.m. at the Sun Valley soccer field. For more information call coach

Other
games are Sept. 28 at Jackson Hole (Wyo.); Oct. 5 at home against the
Boise Lions; and Oct. 12-13 at the Bozeman Oktoberfest meet.
