Two tourney wins
for rugby team

At Pocatello meet

"The team played way over their heads," said Bald Mountain Rugby Football Club coach Scott Huffman about his team’s effort in last weekend’s 10-team Portneuf Valley Invitational tournament in Pocatello.

Bald Mountain, in its first competition of the fall season, won two of its three games at Pocatello. The 16-player traveling team beat Portneuf Valley 29-12 and also posted a 17-15 triumph over Bozeman (Mont.).

Scoring five-point tries for Bald Mountain were loose forward Jeff Boyd (3 tries), standoff Danny Palmer, outside center Rodney Harten and Mike Ward. Boyd made a penalty kick and two PAT conversions, and Eric Diemmer succeeded on a PAT.

In its first game of the weekend, Bald Mountain lost 44-0 to 2001 divisional champion University of Utah.

Others making the trip for Bald Mountain were captain Rob Swanson, Mike Pfau, Jeff Rust, Terry Coe, Milton Brooks, Paul Downey, John Grubbs, Cliff Logsdon, Morgan Mecham, Daniel Barnes and Bob from Jerome, who also scored a try.

Bald Mountain has its first home game of the fall season Saturday, Sept. 21 against Idaho State University at 1 p.m. at O’Donnell Field up Slaughterhouse Canyon, Bellevue.

New players are always welcome. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at the Sun Valley soccer field. For more information call coach Huffman at 720-4639.

Other games are Sept. 28 at Jackson Hole (Wyo.); Oct. 5 at home against the Boise Lions; and Oct. 12-13 at the Bozeman Oktoberfest meet.
