Although
the kids have run in only one race, the Wood River High cross country
team is gaining momentum.

The team
now has 39 runners, a gain of 11 in the past two weeks.
Most of
them appeared in good form, too, judging by the results from the Valley
Invitational hosted by Jerome last Wednesday.
Natalie
Green (23:57) placed second to Gooding’s April Homan (20:50) in the
girls’ 3.1-mile run. Molly Meyers was fifth in 24:19, and Rachael
Richards was sixth in 24:33.
The Wood
River girls’ finished second to Valley in a field of four. Declo was
third and Kimberly fourth.
Other
Wolverine placings and times: 30—Lindsey Niedrich 29:56; 38—Ashley
Baker 32:06; 42—Hayley Strommel 32:05; 43—Jenni Boorda 32:10; 44—Dawn
Bird 32:56.
In boys’
varsity action, the Wolverines were fourth out of seven teams. Gooding
was first, followed by Declo and Hansen.
Top
pacers on the Hailey squad were Matt DeCarufel 17th in 19:37 and Alex
Hamlin 18th in 19:38. David Vanderpool was 20th in 19:57.
Brian
Ward (20:38) placed 30th, Dawson Paschall (20:53) 33rd, Chris LeBlanc
(22:02) 41st, Brad Bradford (22:44) 51st, Artie Livingston (23:22) 56th,
Kyle Niedrich (25:05) 62nd and Robbie Hamlin (25:24) 63rd.
In the
middle school race, Tess Dahlgren and Devyn Parnes finished 1-2 in the
final standings.
The Wood
River Invitational will be staged at the Sun Valley Gun Club, today,
Wednesday, Sept. 11.
"We
would like to thank Sun Valley Company for providing such an awesome
venue," coach James Foster said. "From one spot you can see 85
percent of the race."
Middle
School runners start at 4 p.m. Jayvee is off the line at 4:45 p.m.,
varsity girls at 5:30 p.m. and varsity boys at 6:15 p.m.
