Labor Day tennis 
meet wraps up

Brian Johnson and Jodi Peterson won the top-flight men’s and women’s singles classes during the Labor Day tennis tournament that wrapped up Monday at Ketchum’s Warm Springs Tennis Club.

In Monday’s 5.0 mixed doubles championship match, the father-daughter team of Mike Taylor and Brooke Taylor from California outlasted William Maloney and Susie Foster of Seattle by scores of 6-3, 6-3.

Here are top results from last weekend’s tourney, which attracted 48 singles and 45 doubles teams.

 

Singles

Men’s 5.0 final—
Brian Johnson 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 over Robert Sterk.

Semi-finals—
Johnson 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 over Mike Martinez, and Sterk 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 over Jeff Smith.

Men’s 4.5 final: 
Chris Christensen 6-3, 6-4 over Karsten Fostvedt.

Men’s 4.0 final—
Tod Czaplicki 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 over Jack Crawford.

Men’s 3.5 final—
Cory Rutkowski 3-6, 6-4, 3-2 (ret.) over Ira Shephard.

Women’s 4.5/4.0 round robin—
Jodi Peterson 6-4, 6-1 over Karen Heerensperger and 6-4, 6-2 over second-place Linda Mallory.

Women’s 3.5 final—
Chelsea Cutler 6-3, 6-2 over Susan Marcus.

 

Doubles

Men’s 5.0 final: 
Michael Boskin and Ken Azbill 6-4, 6-1 over Chris Christensen and Carl Christensen.

Men’s 4.0 round robin: 
First place, Rick LaPointe and T.J. Merzlock. Second place, Herb Alexander and Harmon Prine.

Men’s 3.5 final: 
Al Mannino and Eddie Fields by default.

Women’s 4.5/4.0 round robin: 
First place, Judy Ferguson and Heidi Mickelson.

Women’s 3.5 final: 
Chelsea Cutler and Chelle Gourlay 6-1, 6-2 over Charlotte Alexander and Jean Mannino.

Women’s 3.0 round robin: 
First place, Mandy Alexander and Marion Conley.

Mixed 4.0 round robin: 
First place, Jack Alkire and Karen Heerensperger. Second place, Kathy Scribner and Jim Perkins.

Mixed 3.5 final: 
Charlotte and Herb Alexander 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 over Ira Shephard and Susan Marcus.
