Cody Peterson wins
at Brundage

Wild Rockies mountain bikers

Sun Valley’s Cody Peterson surged to an early lead and ended up winning the Pro/Semi Pro men’s class by over six minutes Saturday in the 24-mile cross-country event of the Brundage Mountain Bike Festival.

On a McCall track quickened by Friday’s heavy rains, Peterson and Boise’s Shawn Mitchell covered the first 12-mile lap in a stunning 53:01—over five minutes faster than last year. Peterson kept cooking and finished the course in 1.48:13.

Boise riders Thomas Grant (1.54:30) and Mitchell (1.55:22) finished 2-3, while Whitney Albright of Ketchum was fourth (1.57:20). The Pro Women’s winner was Lorien Lightfield of Boise (2.13:39).

There were nine Wood River Valley/Stanley Basin racers in the cross-country event of the 11th annual Brundage Festival—and four won their classes. They were Peterson, Marc Driver, Sean Hallissey and Andrew Juiliano.

Hailey’s Moses Mexia was sixth (5:51) in Sunday’s steep and challenging two-mile downhill, behind Pro/Semi Pro winner Silas Hesterberg of Boise (5:33).
