WR Dolphins swim to first at Sagebrush

A stroke of pluck

The Wood River Dolphins motto is "leave no question" as in "leave no question who the best team is". If Jackpot were Jeopardy, Alex Trebek would be out of a job.

The 141-member Hailey-based swim team cleaned up at the Sagebrush League Swim Meet at Jackpot, Nevada on August 3, amassing 1,543 points in individual event alone. The next best team in the 9-team meet was Wendell with 530 points.

Head coach Chris Jafay remarked, "The Dolphins more than accomplished their mission. They sacrificed, they worked hard, they cowboyed up and they got the job done!"

The Dolphins had six overall champions, including Josie Potts, Elizabeth Fry, Davis Hague, Kelly Chapman, Jimmy Hague and Scott Bartlett.

In addition, 17 swimmers finished in the top five overall, including Jillian Shay, Tanner Josey, McKenna Chase, Hannah Haupt, Ellie Shay, Broadie Burrell, Chris Preucil, Adam Potts, Sarah Brown, Isabelle Taylor, Brendan Freund, Kaitlyn Farrington, Danielle Smith, Chris Chapman, Ray Bryson, Trista Ballou and Ben Parker.

Scott Isaacs, Leslie Riemann and Nick Chase swam to sixth place overall.

Wood River almost swept the relay races, with 17 first-place finishes, two seconds and one third.

"It was unbelievable," Jafay said.
