Wiseman
named
SVSEF chief
New executive
director
Don
Wiseman, former partner and owner of Sun Summit Ski & Cycle, has
been named the new executive director of the Sun Valley Ski Education
Foundation. He replaces Sheryl Schowengerdt, who resigned.
After a
two-month search the SVSEF Board of Directors voted last week to appoint
Wiseman to the key organizational and fund-raising position. The SVSEF
oversees Sun Valley’s Alpine and Nordic ski teams.
His new
job, effective Aug. 19, was a case of promoting from within.
Wiseman,
47, has been a SVSEF board member for several years. Last winter he was
the board’s vice president, and he was due to start a term as the
board’s president this month.
"At
first I didn’t consider the job," said Wiseman. "Then I was
asked by the board and the program directors if I was interested, and I
went through the application process."
He has 23
years of ski instruction experience. Wiseman managed the Sun Valley Ski
School’s Masters Racing Program from 1986-90. A mountain bike
competitor, Wiseman also has worked with the U.S. Forest Service in the
formation of the Bigwood Backcountry Trails group.
A 1980
graduate of Montana State Univ. in business and accounting, Wiseman has
worked in management for Aqua Investors, a Ketchum-based real estate
investment company. He and his wife Vikki live in Ketchum.
Wiseman’s
duties will include maintaining the smooth operation of the SVSEF’s
Engl Training Center; refining communication between the office, coaches
and parents/athletes; and helping to raise funds.
"It
should be a rewarding job," said Wiseman. "The ski team is a
big tradition in this valley. It has helped a lot of kids become
successful."
