Ryan Dean
qualifies for motorcycle enduro
Benefit Aug. 21
in Ketchum
One of
the special things Ryan Dean did with his father, the late Howard Dean
of Ketchum, was riding motorcycles on backcountry trails.
Ryan Dean
will be carrying on the tradition as one of 30 members of the U.S. team
headed for the International Six-Day Enduro motorcycle races Sept. 24-29
in the Czech Republic.
Dean,
riding a Yamaha WR 400 4-Stroke bike, qualified for the American
Motorcycle Association-sanctioned U.S. team by competing in
cross-country races in Ohio May 25-26 and at Idaho City June 1-2.
"This
is one of those epic adventures you’re glad you have a chance to
do," said Dean. "We’ll be going on single-track trail
through the woods, similar to rally racing on bikes."
To raise
money for his Sept. 17-30 overseas trip, Dean will have a benefit
starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Pro-Line Sport and Power
Equipment, 345 Lewis St. in Ketchum. The benefit will include a
barbecue, silent auction and raffle.
Dean, 33,
graduated from Wood River High School in 1987 and attended the
University of Utah. He and his wife Tina have a six-month-old son named
Shaw Proctor Dean.
He
operates a car stereo shop called Audio Enhancement in Ketchum. In the
winter Ryan coaches for the Sun Valley Ski Team. His mother is Peggy
Dean of Ketchum.
