Despite
months of fruitless work, Idaho Department of Fish and Game
investigators have not given up trying to find the person or persons who
poached a cow moose and her calf last October.
The large
ungulates were killed in the Corral Creek valley, east of Sun Valley and
south of Trail Creek.
A woman
on horseback saw the killings, said Fish and Game Conservation Officer
Roger Olson. The woman said a female companion of the shooter told her
they had a permit, Olson related.
The
witness said that after the second moose was killed, it rolled down the
slope. The two hurriedly fled the scene in their pickup truck.
The cow
weighed about 600 pounds and the calf was about 250 pounds.
The
witness supplied investigators with "good descriptions of both the
people and a vehicle they were driving," Magic Valley Region
Investigator Jerry Altazor said.
Investigators
also retrieved cartridge casings from the scene.
However,
investigations have thus far been fruitless.
"We’re
trying to find a vehicle that matches the description," Altazor
said. "We just have not been able to put it together."
If
arrested and convicted, the poacher could be sentenced to up to a year
in jail and fined $1,000.
