Ice Show signs world champion Slutskaya

August means singles in Sun Valley

Highlights of July’s Sun Valley Ice Show were the visits of the 2002 Olympic pairs skating gold medalists Jamie Salé and David Pelletier of Canada, and Yelena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze of Russia.

August is here, and the upcoming Saturday night shows on resort ice will shine the spotlight more on some of the world’s top singles skaters.

Ice show producer Rainer Kolb said last week he has signed reigning world champion and 2002 Olympic silver medalist Irina Slutskaya of Russia for the Aug. 17 show.

Another highlight is the appearance of two-time national silver medalist Sasha Cohen on Aug. 31.

That’s not all. Spinning expert Lucinda Ruh, a huge hit in the ice show two summers ago, headlines the show of Saturday, Aug. 3. French native Surya Bonaly comes Aug. 24.

And the Aug. 10 headliner is Japan’s Takeshi Honda, who was second in the Olympic men’s singles short program and fourth overall.

Tickets are now on sale at the Sun Valley Sports Center, 622-2231.
