Ketchum youth
excited about Derby trip
Reinemanns headed
for Ohio
Hemingway
Elementary School fifth-grade student Cary Reinemann has his pit crew
ready to roll.
The
Reinemann family is gearing up for a trip to the 65th annual
All-American Soap Box Derby scheduled for Saturday, July 27 at Akron,
Ohio.
Reinemann,
10, of Ketchum, will represent the state of Idaho. There will be over
400 racers from all around the world at Akron. They’ll compete in
three different divisions and enjoy other activities for a week.
The youth
qualified to race in the Super Stock Division at Akron based on his
excellent results in the local Soap Box Derby race held May 29 on the
turn-filled Juniper Road course along Twin Creeks in Elkhorn.
In that
event, organized by Wood River Middle School teacher Rick Dressell,
local kids ranging in age from 9-16 reached speeds of up to 30 miles per
hour—using gravity alone.
Parents
helped kids build their cars, which are purchased in kit form. Cary and
his father Marc Reinemann spent many hours fine-tuning their car. They
polished the axles so the wheels rotated freely. And they strove for the
best aerodynamics.
At Akron,
Cary will proudly display the Wood River Valley car identified by its
Sun Valley logo provided by Sun Valley Company. The Reinemann family
also thanked other sponsors who have provided items to be exchanged at
Akron.
Cary, in
his second year of Soap Box Derby racing, is an active boy. He also
enjoys skiing and snowboarding with the Sun Valley Ski Team as well as
baseball, soccer, basketball, tennis, rollerblading, golf, swimming and
ice hockey.
