Old West royalty
is revealed
At Saturday’s
rodeo
The ten
candidates for the 2002 Miss Days of the Old West royalty served notably
during last weekend’s Hailey Independence Day rodeo sponsored by the
Sawtooth Rangers Riding Club.
And the
winners were revealed at the July 6 performance.
One
of the biggest winners was Melinda Markin, 16, a junior at Wood River
High School in Hailey.
Melinda
was crowned Hailey Teen Queen and teen horsemanship winner. In addition
the Hailey resident was the overall high-point winner of the entire
competition.
She
received a Tex Tan saddle from the Sawtooth Rangers Riding Club,
complete with a matching breast collar from Wood River Equine Hospital.
Each
winner in the Senior Queen, Teen Queen and Junior Queen contests were
awarded engraved silver belt buckles donated by Sawtooth Auto Sales and
US Bank.
Senior
Queen winner was Bekki Fayle of Salmon. Bekki also won Senior Queen
horsemanship, Miss Photogenics, personality and appearance, and speech.
Junior
Queen winner was Kassie Willie, 13, of Pocatello. Kassie also won Junior
Queen speech and horsemanship and was voted by the contestants as the
winner of freestyle horsemanship.
"Miss
Congeniality," also voted by the contestants, was Tricia Lynn
Crump, 14, of Pocatello.
Other
awards:
· Teen
Queen runners-up: First, Cassi Ann Rushton; second, Jaclyn Bruhn;
third, Caitlin McGuire; fourth, Tricia Crump; and fifth, Stephanie
Jorgensen.
Bellevue’s
Cassi Rushton also won teen personality and appearance, and speech.
Sharing the honor for Miss Photogenics were Caitlin McGuire and Jaclyn
Bruhn.
· Junior
Queen runners-up: First, Jentry Perkins; second, Felicity McGraw.
Jentry,
13, of Hailey, also won junior Miss Photogenics and personality and
appearance.
Contest
coordinator for the ninth consecutive year was Michelle Bobbitt of
Bellevue. The judges were Kindi Hess, Miss Rodeo Idaho 2000; Gabrielle
James, Miss Rodeo Idaho 2002; Lorraine Wilcox of Lucky 13 Ranch; and
Stephanie Lusk.
