Criterium a big hit

Hundreds watch bike racers

On a hot summer day, 100 bicycle racers in 12 classes competed Sunday in the second annual Ketchum Criterium staged in the downtown area.

Organizer Greg Stock of Sun Summit estimated 500 to 700 spectators watched the top-flight racers Sunday evening. They were lined several deep along the course.

Susie Wood of New Zealand and Liza Rachetto of Boise, two competitors in the recent HP Women’s Challenge bicycle race, led the Women’s Pro category.

Billy Olson of Sun Valley Road & Dirt and Richard Feldman of Durance Cycleworks led Men’s 1/2.

Sun Summit’s Pete Ross used what he called superior tactics—cutting through an alley—to win the Cruiser Single Speed fun class.
