Citizen racers
welcome in Ketchum Criterium
Sunday, on
downtown streets
It was a
big success last year, with about 75 bike racers participating in the
first annual Ketchum Criterium.
Organizer
Greg Stock of Sun Summit hopes that even more citizen racers turn out
for this year’s race, scheduled for Sunday, June 30 on the same course
in downtown Ketchum.
"This
year we’ve expanded our citizen classes and we’re also reminding
bike riders that you don’t have to be a licensed racer to sign up and
ride in the event," Stock said.
The
0.4-mile criterium starts and ends at 4th Street and 1st Avenue, by Gail
Severn Gallery. Register one hour before your class is due to begin.
Citizen
classes will be held Sunday starting at 9:30 a.m. for citizen women, and
proceeding through citizen men 45-plus at 11 a.m. Citizen racers go for
20 minutes plus one lap.
Masters
men 35-44 and 45-plus begin their 30 minutes-plus-two laps at 11:45 a.m.
and 12:30 p.m. One of the more enjoyable classes for spectators will be
the Cruiser/Single Speed class, which starts at 1:45 p.m. and takes 15
minutes plus one lap.
Three
different bands will begin playing at 2 p.m. by Bob Dog’s and the
street party will continue throughout the rest of the afternoon—while
the U.S. Cycling Federation men and women in categories 1 through 4
race.
Leading
women will start at 4 p.m. for 45 minutes plus two laps followed by Men’s
3 at 5 p.m. for an hour plus three laps and Men’s Pro 1/2 at 6:15 p.m.
for an hour plus three.
Entry fee
of $25 per person includes a one-day license. Of the $25, race
organizers will donate $5 of each entry to the PEAK bus in order to help
purchase bike racks for buses.
Volunteers
are needed. Call Stock weekdays at Sun Summit 726-0707.
