Sun Valley golfers capture Pro-Am spoils

Winning team, low amateur


It was a productive two days for local golfers during the $16,884 Sun Valley Pro-Am, a Snake River Chapter PGA tournament May 22-23 at Sun Valley Golf Course.

Winning the Pro-Am portion of the 36-hole tournament was Sun Valley assistant pro Nick Holtzmaster and his team of Rory Mitchell, Walter Littenberg and Mark McGourty (250). They earned $250 apiece.

They finished a stroke ahead of Twin Falls Municipal pro Mike Hamblin and his team of Corky Federico, Paul Holbrook and Norm Lancaster (251). Placing third was Indian Lakes GC (Boise) pro Jeff Thomsen with Mansel Rogers, Brian Saksa and John Demetre (258).

In fifth place among 30 teams and 120 players was Sun Valley pro Art Kerrick and his foursome of Jeff Wong, Pat Moloney and Scott Winegar (259), for $150 apiece.

The Pro Sweeps champion was Kevin Burton of BanBury Golf Club in Eagle, with a five-under-par 139. He won $687. Two strokes back in second place was Tad Holloway of Cherry Lane in Meridian, 141.

Elkhorn’s Evan Lillevand tied for sixth among the pros with an even-par 144, good for $159. Senior Sweeps winner was Sun Valley head pro Doyle Corbett (152), good for $520.

Sun Valley’s Brian Saksa (145) was top amateur in first flight gross for a $250 payday.
