The young bucks from the Wood River Valley made a big move on the 2002 Wild Rockies Mountain Bike Series Saturday near Twin Falls.

Moving up from the Expert Class to the top-level Pro/Semi-Pro Men’s category for the 21-mile Revenge of the Singletrack cross-country race, young riders from this area cracked the top 12 on the result board.

Sun Valley’s Michael McClure, 17, earned the runner-up berth behind Pro/Semi-Pro winner Shawn Mitchell of Boise. Mitchell’s finishing time was 1.50:44 and McClure trailed by just 64 seconds at 1.51:48.

A little farther down the list but still very competitive were Daryl Price of Ketchum in seventh place at 1.57:04, Sean McLaughlin of Ketchum in ninth place overall at 1.58:26 and Jason Eder of Hailey, 12th overall in 2.04:58.

Top woman on the 21-mile course at Magic Mountain Ski Area south of Twin Falls was Lorien Lightfield of Boise, 2.11:09.

In all, 208 racers raced on 10.5-mile, 14-mile and 21-mile courses in weather that ranged from sunny to rainy to hail and heavy winds. Of that number, 19 were Wood River riders.

Winning their age classes during the 11th annual event were Eric Rector of Ketchum in Sport Men 35-44, Cherry Thornton of Hailey in Sport Women 35-44 and Kathleen Eder of Hailey in Sport/Expert 45-up.
