This summer’s
Sun Valley Ice Show, which debuts Saturday, June 15 on the outdoor rink,
has a full schedule highlighted by half of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter
Olympics’ most controversial split decision.
Headliners
for two Independence Day holiday shows is the Russian pair of Yelena
Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze, who shared the Olympic gold with
Canadians Jamie Salé and David Pelletier.
Two-time
world champions Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze will star in two holiday shows—Thursday,
July 4 and Saturday, July 6. Tickets are now on sale at the Sun Valley
Sports Center, 622-2231.
Another
highlight will be the appearance of two-time national silver medalist
Sasha Cohen for the Aug. 31 show. And Olympic gold medalist Brian Boitano
returns for the Herbert Allen show July 13.
Sun Valley’s
summer schedule of 15 shows kicks off Saturday, June 15 with professional
world champs Anita Hartshorn and Frank Sweiding.
Sweiding is
the new ice show director, replacing Andrzej Dostatni. Although six-time
Polish ice dancing king Dostatni is no longer skating in the ice show, his
statuesque former partner Darlin Baker of Utah will be back this year.
A Sun
Valley favorite, Jozef "Jumpin’ Joe" Sabovcik of Slovakia will
headline the June 22 show. Sun Valley favorites Elena Leonova and Andrei
Khvalko, the 2000 professional world champions, are the featured skaters
on June 29.
Scheduled
for the July 20 show are two-time world ice dancing champions Anjelika
Krylova and Oleg Ovsiannikov.
