Mountain bike debut

Boise-based racer Cody Peterson (1.48:36 over 27 miles) of Lost River Cycling won the Pro/Semi Pro Men’s class of the seventh annual Barking Spider Bash mountain bike race near Nampa Sunday.

Peterson finished nearly two minutes ahead of runner-up Whit Albright of Ketchum (1.50:27) in the opening event of the 2002 Wild Rockies Mountain Bike Series. The weather was a mixed bag, but the event still drew 261 racers.

Here are class placings and times of Wood River racers:

2—Dave Bell (2.36:25 for 27 miles). 3—Bruce Rogers (1.30:30 for 18 miles). 4—Erik Rolf (1.38:47 for 18 miles) and Mark Harbaugh (1.02:53 for 9 miles). 5—Moses Mexia (2.12:03 over 27 miles). 6—Whit Harbaugh (1.40:06 for 18 miles).

Next: The Lava Rama May 11 at Lava Hot Springs.
