Droege grabs
combined title at nationals

Intermountain
Division racer Anna Droege of Sun Valley captured the combined
championship of the women’s 60-64 age class during the U.S.S.A. Alpine
Masters National Championships March 30-April 7.
Droege won
the Class 8 gold medals in super giant slalom and giant slalom at Winter
Park, Colo., and added the silver medal in slalom.
Other
Intermountain Division racers winning combined golds in were Glenn
McConkey (55-59), Chris Katzenberger (35-39), Maca Leontic (21-29), Stan
Beach (65-69), Bill Skinner (45-49) and Shawn Ackerman (40-44).
Combined
silver medalists from Intermountain were Carl Fullman (65-69) and Virginia
Reed (70-74). Winning the combined bronze were Marvin Melville (65-69),
Ned Dolan (60-64), Keith McCauley (55-59) and Chris Peterson (35-39).
Other
combined class placings of local interest: 4—John Droege (75-79), Bob
Dreyer (50-54) and Kim Verde (50-54). 6—Craig Norton (21-29). 7—Bob
Sarchett (55-59). 8—Cliff Cunha (45-49), Drury Cooper (70-74) and Nancy

locals earned national championship medals for placing in the top three of
their classes in individual races:
Gold—Virginia
Reed (SG); Anna Droege (SG/GS); and Nancy Auseklis (SL). Silver—Virginia
Reed (SL/ GS); Anna Droege (SL); Carl Fullman (SG/GS); Marvin Melville
(SL); and Bob Dreyer (SG).
Bronze—Nancy
Auseklis (SG); John Droege (SL); Marvin Melville (SG/GS); Ned Dolan (GS);
Bob Dreyer (GS); and Chris Peterson (SG).
A total 279
racers from across the country competed in the weeklong event. Winning the
Divisions Cup combined title among seven regional teams was Pacific
Northwest. Three-time defending champion Intermountain finished third.
Run
separately from the national triple combined on April 2 at Winter Park was
the National Championship Downhill as part of the Molecule F National
Speed Series.
Winning
their class golds in DH were Bob Dreyer, Nancy Auseklis, Glenn McConkey,
Linda Wagner, Marvin Melville and overall men’s winner Richard Slabinski.
